Up On the Ridge – Dierks BentleyView More By Dierks Bentley Our ReviewFor a Nashville star to release an all-acoustic bluegrass album at the peak of his career isn’t exactly a recipe for popularity, but that’s precisely what makes Up On the Ridge so appealing. This is Dierks Bentley at his loosest and most naturalistic, embracing his own tastes rather than the expectations of the radio audience. And yet, Up On the Ridge isn’t at all alienating — in fact, it’s probably Bentley’s most inviting work to date. Featuring a cast of veterans from Nashville’s bluegrass scene — including members of Nickel Creek, the Punch Brothers, the Nashville Bluegrass Band, and the Del McCoury Band — the album manages to tie together traditions ancient and modern. Bentley sings “Fallin’ for You,” “Bad Angel,” and “Down In the Mine” in a way that makes them feel modern, even though these songs could have come from a hundred years ago. And in his own way, he brings a 21st-century touch to the ancient tradition with his reading of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love).” The best part of Up On the Ridge is that these songs are played with grit and conviction — there’s nothing antique about it.. Customer ReviewsGood Damn Music (4 stars)I am by no means a fan of country music, generally, but after stumbling on the video for "Up on the Ridge" I have yet to find a Dierks Bentley song I haven't liked, and this album has been pleasantly and consistently quite good. I am a new fan. awsome (5 stars) i really love the blue-grass feel to his songs on this album. Its definetley a buy-now cd!!! Draw Me a Map that leads me to a place where i can get this song (4 stars) From what I've heard so far I absolutely love Dierks Bentley's new style, but I am super disappointed because I've tried like 20 times to buy the song Draw Me a Map, and iTunes keeps telling me it is no longer available for purchase... It's times like these when I see why someone would want to skip paying $1.29 for songs that are only sometimes available to buy, and download music somewhere else. Just sayinggg... BiographyBorn: November 20, 1975 in Phoenix, AZGenre: Country Years Active: '00s, '10s Growing up in a non-musical family in Phoenix, Arizona, country singer Dierks Bentley got his country music education on his own, listening to recordings. A love of the music inspired him to move to Nashville at the age of 19, but he quickly grew discouraged by the lack of public and professional interest coming his way. It all changed when he walked into the Station Inn, a bar where the bluegrass faithful hang out. An all-night jam session recharged his batteries and he restarted pursuing gigs....
