Our Review

As a young band with the burning desire to become an epic and legendary one, U2 placed an even greater emphasis on their overall sound and impact than on their individual songs. Sure, they had their anthems – “New Year’s Day,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday” – but the band was always more interested in finding ways to expand their sonic palette and fill the arena with grandeur. For their fourth album, they enlisted the help of producer Brian Eno and his protégé Daniel Lanois, an engineering team noted for their experimental and ambient processes. The results came in as expected. The mood was thicker with atmosphere than riffs (“A Sort of Homecoming,” “MLK”) and when the band did embark with ambitious anthems — “Pride (in the Name of Love),” “Bad” — it was with layers of shimmering guitars and dynamics that went from whispers to screams. Their self-mythologizing “Elvis Presley and America” pushes them to the edge of their pretensions. But the overall moodiness here makes for an entrancing listen of a group about to be catapulted into the stratosphere of superstardom.

An Amazing Album That Is Nothing Short Of Wow (5 stars)
Weather you’re a U2 fan or not you probably have always regarded U2's first great album as being The Joshua Tree. Well The Unforgettable Fire came out 3 years before Joshua Tree did. In my opinion it was the first real "Album" that they had released to that point. From the soaring atmospheric sounds of 'A Sort of Homecoming' to the powerful and moving ‘Bad’ and then to the quiet yet overpowering 'MLK', this album is just that

Really Cool! (5 stars)
I love this album, and it's remastered. That's awesome!

The Unforgettable Album (5 stars)
Is what this album is...its not my favorite U2 record but the strongest songs on here are some of my favorite in their catalogue. This remaster is crisp and clear...worth the wait IMO... Bono's vocals are the strongest of his career here and The Edge's guitar landscapes took root here and you see why he is the magician of guitar...

Biography

Formed: 1976 in Dublin, Ireland
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands of the '80s. They were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal, equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements about politics and religion. The Edge provided the group with a signature sound by creating sweeping sonic landscapes with his heavily processed, echoed guitars. Though the Edge's style wasn't conventional,...
