The Oracle (Deluxe Edition) – GodsmackView More By Godsmack Our ReviewOne of the most reliable hard-rock bands of current vintage, Boston’s Godsmack deliver the pounding riffs of classic heavy metal while dipping their melodies into the pained retrospection of grunge. The album’s first single, “Cryin’ Like a Bitch!!,” rumored to be about Mötley Crüe, has the sass of a band looking for a good street fight. “Devil’s Swing” throws down at full throttle. “Good Day to Die” adds an extra funk grunt. “Forever Shames” supplements the band’s lurching rhythms with some sublime, ‘70s-styled guitar leads. “What If?” channels the extra texture of metal veterans such as Metallica for its mix of strong and somber. “Shadow of a Soul” sends the band into that Alice in Chains zone where singer Sully Erna dares to tread. The title track is yet another metallic epic, beginning with slow, subtle moves that build to a climax. “Whiskey Hangover” swings with a jackhammer rhythm, proving the band is capable of stretching itself any which way it desires. The bonus track, “The Departed,” finishes things on a definite strong note. Godsmack are one of the most powerful and diverse bands surviving in 2010.. Customer ReviewsGood Ole Godsmack! (5 stars)A very solid cd by Godsmack. You can always trust they'll make a good album. Although, they do get a lot of criticism for not "changing it up enough" I think that is one of the best things about them. They know what there doing works, so they keep doing it. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Godsmack owns Motley Crue (5 stars) Hey Nikki Sixx! THE HAND OF GOD JUST SMACKED YOU BACK INTO YESTERDAY! Very Dissapointed (2 stars) Been a fan since 2000 and this album really didn't cut it for me. I love Sully's voice but I feel like that's all this album is. Sully's voice to a beat that barely changes from song to song. No song variety like serenity or voodoo. If you listen to the whole cd start to finish in one sitting you'd think it was all one song. Whole CD: 44 minutes. Not worth the wait. BiographyFormed: Boston, MAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s The Boston-based alternative metal group Godsmack were originally comprised of vocalist Sully Erna (a devout Wiccan), guitarist Tony Rambola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Tommy Stewart. After debuting in 1997 with All Wound Up, Godsmack signed with Universal, which in 1998 reissued the LP as a self-titled effort with a handful of new tracks; at that point Stewart — who'd left the group in mid-1997 and was replaced by drummer Joe d'Arco — returned to the lineup on a permanent basis....
