Our Review

The latest step toward maturity for this Ohio state jam band means reigning in the loose instrumental ends and playing servant to the song. While writing a song (“Love and Memories”) with hired-gun Glen Ballard that sounds nearly like an early ‘80s new wave hit should mildly alarm the jam-band faithful, it’s only one minor misstep on an album that shows the band’s overall desire to avoid being pigeonholed. Fact is, O.A.R. (that’s “of a revolution,” by the way) have plenty of unforced “pop” in them. “Wonderful Day,” “Lay Down,” and “Program Director” are bouncy sprints of positivity styled with vague reggae grooves. “The Stranger” is a polished middle-of-the-road rocker. “Nasim Joon” would be a power-ballad in more bombastic hands. Here, it’s a reflective croon for singer Marc Roberge and an opening for saxophonist Jerry DePizzo to get some playing time. In the end, they’re not up for much of a “revolution,” unless you consider playing toward greater convention a subversive act.

Some Are Good, But Different Sound Indeed (3 stars)
I like Heard The World, 52-50, and Wonderful Day(which isn't new). The others are just o.k. The other reviews have it right, if you like the old O.A.R. then you will most likely be disapointed with this album. The album has more of a pop sound to it. AND THEY TOOK OUT ONE OF THE BEST THINGS.....THE SAX. The Sax made the old songs more alive. this album uses the sax as just a backround noise. Where Are The Sax Solos That I Loved? But Overall

Is this OAR? (2 stars)
For people who like the "OLD" OAR you will be sorely disappointed in this album. The sound is totally different. Gone is the sound of jumpy hopping reggae tunes that we know and love. "Stories" sounds like a bunch of safe top 40 tunes. Enter synthesized vocals and exit our favorite sax player, he's heard on just a few tunes. The only "Stranger" here is OAR.

In my opinion, their best yet. I've been an O.A.R. fan for a long time now I could not wait for this album to come out. And now I have it and it's so amazing. It includes their single "Love and Memories" the long awaited studio version of "Wonderful Day" hits like "One Shot," "Lay Down," and "The Stranger" make this album a must own for just all around good rock lovers.
