Pretty. Odd. (Deluxe Version) – Panic! At the DiscoView More By Panic! At the Disco Our ReviewOn their second release Panic at the Disco lay out their cheeky intentions immediately with a brief opening ditty that proclaims: “Oh, how we’ve been so long/we’re sorry we’ve been gone/we were busy writing songs for you!” before erupting into a cheering crowd. The self-referential schtick and some of the sillier lyrics can get a bit thick but there’s no denying that they’re having a good time and it’s all charming enough to pull listeners along. They try to hide their ambition behind runaway goofiness but there are too many good hooks and hummable melodies to truly believe that they don’t know what they’re doing. And as soon as you think that maybe they’re taking none of it seriously they throw off a lovely tune like “Northern Downpour.” Stylistically it’s all miles from their 2005 debut A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. This time around they toss in a bit of everything, including strings, horn fills, swirling harmonies, even a mock-vaudevillian interlude in “I Have Friends in Holy Places.” To say that Pretty. Odd. is often over the top is as obvious as some of the corny wordplay.. Customer ReviewsDOMINIC SAYS YESS! (5 stars)FINALLY!! another amazing, mesmerizing, unique album from a band that changed music forever! sadly, without the "!" after "Panic". a sign of maturity?? anyways, click "yess" if you agree Panic at the Disco is an amazing band, and you will be one of the firsts to have thier new album!!! First Impression: New Direction (4 stars) At the first listen through, Pretty. Odd. is a radical departure from A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. I would almost venture to say it sounds closer to indie rock, or maybe The Beatles than to their first album. That being said, I cannot complain. The band said they realized they were changing a bit and hoped that their fans would be able to grow with them; wise words. The sound is definitely more (in the band's words) organic than their electr Masterpiece (5 stars) 3 years, one thrown out album, and hundreds of gallons of coffee later comes, Pretty. Odd. The perfect album to follow A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Pretty Odd has a very distinct sound only Panic could creat. Yet it keeps you wanting more. True Fans will be inspired by songs such as, Mad As Rabbits and Northern Downpour. The album is pure genious and I give 2 thumbs up, 5 stars, and a round of applause to the band! BiographyFormed: Las Vegas, NVGenre: Alternative Years Active: '00s, '10s The members of Panic! at the Disco had barely graduated high school when their full-length debut, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, transformed the suburban Las Vegas teens into national emo-pop stars. The band had materialized several years earlier, when friends Spencer Smith (drums) and Ryan Ross (guitar) began covering blink-182 tunes together. After tiring of playing another group's material, they recruited two additional classmates, guitar/vocalist Brendon Urie and bassist Brent Wilson, and the newly...
