Coldplay's ascension as the rock gods of the new millennium rivals that of Nirvana's just ten years earlier. Both were unwitting heroes of a rock scene desperate for a leader, and both donned their crowns with great reluctance. Unlike Nirvana, Coldplay chose the dream-pop route on their debut, with exquisitely executed melodies, mesmerizing guitar hooks, and just enough soul-searching substance to offset the band's gorgeous simplicity. The result is possibly the best pop debut of the decade, and worth every ounce of attention it received. Key tracks: "Yellow," "Don't Panic," "Trouble," and "Proof."

Nice and Mellow (5 stars)
This is the kind of music I would listen to if I were laying in a hammock on a beach in the Caribbean while watching the sun peak over the horizon. Each song has a warm feel to it that just puts you in a trans. In my opinion, this is the best album the great Coldplay has released in it's history.

Coldplay's Hidden Gem (5 stars)
Taking a look at Coldplay now, you wouldn't expect an intimate album like this to come from such a huge band. Well, believe it or not, the guys of Coldplay trace their roots back to a guitar, a piano, drums, a voice, and raw talent. With no huge radio hits, save for Yellow, Parachutes may be Coldplay's most overlooked album, and seeing as it doesn't exactly sound like the huge, booming band you hear now with Viva La Vida.
