One Foot In the Grave (Bonus Track Version) – BeckView More By Beck Our ReviewWhile Beck made a career out of confounding expectations by consistently finding new ways to express himself, juxtaposing genres that no one else seemed able to make fit, he was often at his most effective at his most simple and direct. This acoustic album, recorded before his hit Mellow Gold but released several months after his sudden success, makes the most of his “folk” roots with tunes that mine old blues (“He’s A Mighty Good Leader,” “You Gotta Move,” “Fourteen Rivers Fourteen Floods”) and his own modern sensibilities (“I Get Lonesome,” “A*****e,” later covered by Tom Petty). The deluxe edition presents three previously released cuts including the difficult to find ”It’s All In Your Mind” single, and thirteen previously unreleased cuts that suddenly turn this album into a major, sprawling opus, including “Your Love is Weird,” “Burning Boyfriend” and an alternate take of “I Get Lonesome.” The simple acoustic guitar and vocal presentation, with producer Calvin Johnson adding some backing vocals, has a modern day rustic charm, with only a few sonic manipulations present (“Closer to God”) suggesting Beck’s more studio-enhanced side.. Customer ReviewsSimply the best. (5 stars)Wonderful album, its my favourite of all time. I would say tharts it one of his best. Beck's monotone, repetive sound really give this album character. The almost amateur guitar playing and his words, sometimes seemingly nonsensical, and way of singing makes this feel nostalgic. It's like listening to something from a long time ago that you miss. And for some reason they all remind you of a way you've felt before, in a bored and left to your Sorry "Loser", You've Been Replaced (5 stars) Nowadays it's hard to understand why Beck was considered such an icon for the so-called "slacker generation". Sure, he has "Loser" but that is played on the radio more than something like Metallica or Guns n Roses. His early demented folk songs are some of the gnarliest statements of all time and his live shows that he'd play them were usually accompanied by him lighting his guitar on fire and blowing a leaf blower on sta It is about time!!! (5 stars) I got this album in 1995 in Olympia from some guys at K records. They were the first label to release it. Somewhere along the way it became another scratched up CD that wouldn't play. Now I tunes has caught up to it. If you like or don't like Beck it doesn't matter. This album is brilliant! I can't wait to hear it again! BiographyBorn: July 08, 1970 in Los Angeles, CAGenre: Alternative Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Initially pegged as something as a voice of a generation when “Loser” turned into a smash crossover success, Beck did wind up crystallizing much of the post-modern ruckus of the ‘90s alternative explosion, but in unexpected ways. Based in the underground anti-folk and noise-rock worlds, Beck encompassed all manners of modern music, drawing in hip-hop, blues, trash-rock, pop, soul, lounge music…pretty much any found sound or vinyl dug up from a dusty crate, blurring boundaries and encapsulating how...
