Our Review

With an opening triumvirate of “We Will Rock You,” “We Are the Champions” and “Sheer Heart Attack,” News of the World remains one of Queen’s most successful albums and for good reason. The writing is nothing short of brilliant. The performances are so note-perfect that it’s impossible to imagine them being done any other way. But the album retains that consistency beyond those three infamous tunes. “All Dead, All Dead” is a nicely sedate Brian May pop song. “Sleeping On the Sidewalk,” the other May showcase, is a goof, a quick take on American blues. “Spread Your Wings” was yet another hit for the group, written by bassist John Deacon, the group’s often overlooked secret weapon. “Fight from the Inside,” written, sung and performed by drummer Roger Taylor, is a piece of bright funk. “Get Down, Make Love” has retained so much of its quirky firepower that it was a natural cover for Nine Inch Nails. Spanish guitar highlights “Who Needs You.” “It’s Late” is another solid Queen anthem. The 2011 Deluxe Edition adds two BBC Session recordings, two incendiary live tracks and an outtake of “Feelings, Feelings.”

Best. Queen. Album. Ever. (5 stars)
I know, I know. "Day at the Races" & "Night at the Opera" are wonderful albums, Bohemian Rhapsody is without a doubt the most brilliant rock opus on the planet. HOWEVER, "News of the World" is, in my opinion, the greatest example of the diversity present in the writing and musicality of Freddie, Brian, John & Roger. Not only does it have the stadium anthem We Will Rock You and its melodic counterpart We

A True Rocker's Album (5 stars)
For 6 years I have loved Queen, and even now it is most definitely my favorite band. If you like "The Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Night at the Opera" then this Album is made for you. Not only does it have the classic "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" but it comes with the bonus remix of We Will Rock You which is pretty good. I suggest "Spread you Wings" , "Its Late" and &q

Headline News of The World: Queen Rocks!!!! (5 stars)
After the operatic/piano driven A Day At The Races, Queen released News of the World, which easily one of their most rock oriented albums. This album opens with the world renowned rocker We Will Rock you (which the majority of the people in the civilized world likely know the words to, or at least the chorus) and the piece that has always accompanied it, the triumphant We Are the Champions (another song that most of the civilized world know

Biography

Formed: 1971 in London, England
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Few bands embodied the pure excess of the '70s like Queen. Embracing the exaggerated pomp of prog rock and heavy metal, as well as vaudevillian music hall, the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals. Queen's music was a bizarre yet highly accessible fusion of the macho and the fey. For years, their albums boasted the motto "no synthesizers were used on this record," signaling their allegiance with the legions...
