Our Review

This is where the fights break out. After four studio albums of steady progress and experimentation, Metallica opted to streamline their attack to something more readily accessible to the masses. Producer Bob Rock was brought aboard to sharpen their sound, which had grown admittedly muddled on their previous release ...And Justice For All, and he also seems to have tutored the group towards writing songs that get to the point. "Enter Sandman" is the obvious case-in-point. Its head-on, no-nonsense approach and fail-safe chorus ("Exit light, enter night") guaranteed the group the radio and MTV play that often eluded them in the past. If anything, however, it's the refined moments — the haunting ballad "Nothing Else Matters," the contemplative "The Unforgiven — that actually extend the band's reach and are the album's highlights. Ironically, it's the standard Metallica riffage of "Of Wolf and Man" and the defensive "Don't Tread On Me" that sound as if the group is in danger of boxing themselves into the corner. It's a testament to their strong identity that this would be a problem, one most groups would rehearse their entire lives to have.

Given A Bad Name For No Reason! (5 stars)
For years this album has been a point of controversay in not just the metal but the entire music industry. On one hand, this album has probably been the most succesful metal album of all time, as far as copies sold is concerned. When it comes down to the music of it, however, there are two sides with split arguements. The majority of the so called "True Metalheads" deem this album metal blashpemy, and consider it the selling out of

What in the world is wrong with iTunes??? Get the date right! (5 stars)
I'm sorry, but I don't think it should be too difficult to get the year of release listed correctly. While the Metallica releases may have been reissued today, iTunes still needs to apply the actual release date... and according to iTunes, as of 4/22/08, every Metallica release came out today. This is a simple fix guys... get it together. By the way, the album rocks!

A Essential 90s Metal Album- or just for Metal all together. (5 stars)
"sigh" how the hell did Metallica sell out? can't you tell they change almost every album? do producers matter? if Bob Rock did Master of Puppets would you have cared? NO YOU WOULD NOT HAVE. Why should "Nothing Else Matter" cross the line and "Fade to Black not? This album is killer PERIOD. even the tracks that might seem filler STill woop a*s. shut up UNREAL Metallica fans- we know youre false opinions!

Biography

Formed: 1981 in Los Angeles, CA
Genre: Rock
Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions. The release of 1983's Kill 'Em All marked the beginning of the legitimization of heavy...
