Our Review

Some artists wait their entire careers to record an album as powerful as 2004’s Live Like You Were Dying. In Tim McGraw’s case, it took a decade’s worth of country music success to reach this level of emotional honesty and creative nerve. Personal sorrows – most notably the passing of his father — doubtlessly contributed to the weightiness of the project. But for whatever reasons, this album is easily McGraw’s most substantial work, a 16-cut exploration of faith, loss, endurance and fleeting happiness. Its title track is a defiant celebration of life in the face of tragedy, and the rest of the album maintains as high a standard. Though he didn’t write these songs, McGraw makes each of them sound like a personal confession. From the raw ambition of “How Bad Do You Want It” through the last-gasp desperation of “Drugs Or Jesus” and the bruised determination of “We Carry On,” there’s a toughness to these tracks that sets them apart from typical Nashville fare. Tunes like the nostalgic “Back When” add a needed dash of humor. Live Like You Were Dying is remarkable for its integrity, courage and candor.

When I die, bury me with this album! (5 stars)
Tim did it AGAIN!!!! Overall this album seems to be a little mellower, but the amazing thing about Tim's albums is that every song is a classic. There are very few albums in my iTunes that allow me to just hit play and let the good tunes roll, but I can always count on Tim...especially with this album.

A Modern Tim (5 stars)
Tim is a classic on this album, wihtout going to far back, or ahead. He remains true to his country roots, while throwing a classic rock twist into the country twang. Tim seems to show talent in his most recent album, while not selling out. Do not be discouraged by some of the song titles, it's about the music. If you're looking for some good ol' country without the glare of a twang, give this a try. Tim's best so far.(and I consider myself

Strongest album in years (5 stars)
Live Like You Were Dying is filled with great songs. I would have liked to see a few more up-tempo songs, but the selections on this album tell vivid stories. Besides the title song, Do You Want Fries With That succeeds despite the odd refrain, while Just Be Your Tear has a catchy pop hook and Blank Sheet of Paper would impress your English teacher (with its view of writer's block from the perspective of the paper).

Biography

Born: May 01, 1967 in Delhi, LA
Genre: Country
Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

When Tim McGraw debuted in the early '90s, few would have predicted that he would eventually take over Garth Brooks' position as the most popular male singer in country music. Yet that's exactly what he did, thanks to a string of multi-platinum albums, a high-profile marriage to fellow superstar Faith Hill, and Brooks' own inevitable decline. His sound epitomized the strain of commercial country that dominated his era: updated honky tonk and Southern-fried country-rock on the uptempo tunes, well-polished,...
