Our Review

Jay-Z's second album adds silk suits to the saggy denim hanging in his closet. In My Lifetime is best known for its cold-blooded dissections "The City Is Mine," "Streets is Watching," and "Where I'm From." Eve when he lightens up, as he does on "(Always Be My) Sunshine," "I Know What Girls Like," and "Who You Wit 2," he refuses to take off his shades. There is a distance being created here, an elevation that would carry him to the top of the game. The loss of Biggie Smalls in 1997 opened the position of NYC rap kingpin and In My Lifetime Vol. 1 is Jay-Z's resume and convincing cover letter to assume the mantle.

An Underrated Album (5 stars)
Many people complained about this album. They said that this CD was not nearly as good as Reasonable Doubt. It's true that this album is not as good as Reasonable Doubt, however, it is still an excellent album. It is probably Jay's fourth best album (behind Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album). Here is a review of the songs of the CD: 1. GOAT (except for nas) (5 stars)
I don't understand how people sleep on this album so much more than the rest of his albums, this album might be hotter than vol. 2 and is definitely hotter than vol. 3 and blueprint 2 and the dynasty. Jay has had new york and the rest of the world on lock for so long and this album is no exceptioin, except for the DISGUSTING and TERRIBLE "i know what girls like". Lil Kim needs to stop only rapping about sex and so does every other

This album came out in 1997, not 1995. I remember because I cut school that day to cop it. Word.
