this is the best of Donovan (5 stars)
For whatever reasons, this album was my introduction to Donovan, probably within a year or two of its original release. I doubt if I ever acquired more than one more of his records, because everything I heard after this felt overproduced, overmanaged, overwrought. I played this single record so often some of these songs still arrive unbidden - but welcome - in my head over 40 years later, usually at a moment of random wholeness. The big hits
