John Lennon’s first solo album, Plastic Ono Band, stripped the music to its core and unleashed his confessions on the world. His follow-up, 1971’s Imagine, continued the self-analysis and Lennon’s constant struggle with his anger and insecurities, but it was set to music that was more lush and easily accessible than the primal minimalism of the solo debut. The piano-based title track has become a utopian anthem the world over, but Imagine offers many points of entry, from Lennon’s gnashing tirade “Give Me Some Truth,” his anti-war polemic “I Don’t Want To Be a Soldier,” and his attack on old bandmate Paul McCartney “How Do You Sleep?” to the love songs “Oh Yoko,” “Oh My Love,” and the gorgeously orchestrated “Jealous Guy” (which had circulated around the time of The Beatles’ White Album as “Child of Nature”). The album lacks the shock factor of Plastic Ono Band, but its overall sound (produced by Phil Spector, who used a light touch) is soothing without losing its edge. Lennon would spend the rest of his solo career seeking and sometimes deliberately avoiding that balance.

Just imagine... (5 stars)
"Imagine" is one of the simplest songs ever written, yet, it's so universal and beautiful in its message. It IS the greatest song ever written- lyrically and musically. This song asks you to do something, to imagine just for a moment, for the sake of PEACE. "You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only the only one...".

what is better than this? imagine is one of the greatest songs ever written. and even the least popular song on the album so far "crippled inside" is fun, catchy and brings me back to my childhood.

Amazing remasters and about the hissing sound on "Imagine"... (5 stars)
Being a record collector and from listening to "Imagine" on vinyl, I can tell you that the hissing sound was on the vinyl and intentional. Yoko probably kept it there so that fans could experience this album the way it was originally released. In the digital generation, when someone hears "remastered", they expect every little flaw to be taken away, when sometimes, you need those flaws. Also, I am disappointed to hear how
