Our Review

In this unstable market, pop stars must be businessman and like any good CEO Usher has decided to diversify with Here I Stand. After watching Beyonce and Rihanna dominate the charts with a pop song (“Irreplaceable”) and a rock song (“Umbrella”) respectively, Usher diverts from his R&B signature long enough to try out “What’s A Man To Do”, an acoustic-based number that feels like a rejoinder to “Irreplaceable”. Over the course of the album, Usher tries out as many styles of R&B as he has room for. The glossy disco of “Revolver” and “This Ain’t Sex” reflect Usher’s perpetual mission to update Off the Wall-era Michael Jackson, while “Here I Stand” is a passionate plea on par with Brian Mcknight’s ballads. Of course, ever since “Yeah!” spent an astonishing 12 weeks at #1 in the spring of 2004, Usher’s calling card has been party-starting club music. “What’s Your Name”, “Appetite”, and the cheap-yet-amazing “Love In this Club” will most definitely have your hands in the air, but to get to the finest Usher has to offer, go to “Best Thing” and “Something Special.” The first is the kind of solid no-nonsense R&B/rap track that they just don’t make anymore; the latter is an unadorned soul song that showcases just how much Usher can do with his still-boyish voice.

Usher-Here I Stand (4 stars)
Four years after the release of 8 million selling Confessions, Usher has returned. With Here I Stand, he attempts to recreate the magic and success, while creating a different sound. Love In This Club: Usher’s return starts with the atmospheric synthy club banger, “Love In This Club”. It features Usher at his raunchiest, promising he’ll “give it to you non stop” and “let’s both get undressed right here”, while ATL trapstar

Here I Stand, stands on it's own (4 stars)
If you're comparing it to Confessions, it's an entirely different album altogether. It's not a sequel to Confessions, it's a work of art all it's own. It seems everyone is disappointed because it doesn't sound like the last album. Remember artists have to grow and change. I'm lovin' it! It's mellow. It's the type of album that you can start at the beginning and just listen peacefully to the whole album from start to finish. Usher's voice

The King of R&B retakes his throne (5 stars)
R&B king Usher marks his return after a four-year absence with ‘Here I Stand,’ a contemporary mix of synthed-up club tracks and sincere soliloquies. The record kicks off with the #1 monster smash “Love In This Club,” which was produced by Polow da Don and has scorched up the charts with its techno vibe and insanely catchy hook. The lyrics are a bit silly with Young Jeezy’s double entendres, it does not take too much away. The

After Usher Raymond was spotted by a LaFace record executive at a talent show in his hometown of Atlanta, it took no time for his career to take off. The 14-year-old auditioned for LaFace co-founder L.A. Reid, who signed the gospel choir boy to a recording contract. Raymond was introduced to the world simply as "Usher," and released his debut album of the same name in 1994, which featured co-executive producer Sean "Puffy" Combs. The first single, "Think of You," gained Usher wide recognition and...
