Dookie – Green DayView More By Green Day Our ReviewBratty, snide, and brash but rarely sophomoric, Green Day's major label debut is an explosion of punk-pop pleasure. Three chords haven't sounded this good since the Ramones. Green Day's world is one of suburban revolution, where dad is covered in tats and mom burns the toast with a blowtorch. They've found the promise of the American Dream a joke, but don't know who's to blame. Songs like "Chump," "Long View," and "Emenius Sleeping" point the finger randomly, including back at themselves. Billie Joe Armstrong's adenoidal singing is ideally suited to these songs. With his faux British accent, he comes off as justifiably petulant. Dookie helped revived punk music, wrapping it in great pop songs like "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around," somehow making furious dissatisfaction fun again.. Customer ReviewsThis Album Shouldn't Be Kept All By Itself! (5 stars)Great CD. It takes the fusion of pop and punk and creates a great sound. Sure, I said "pop", but all you narrowminded people out there who say that punk ABSOLUTELY CANNOT mix with pop, it's time to broaden your horizon. Green Day is great, always has been, despite what you say. And for all of you who think that everyone who listens to these guys are girls who died their hair black, walk around in miniskirts and Green Day tees, an Dookie vs. American Idiot (4 stars) In regards to everyone as I took into account the majority opinion 1. Meaningful songs: winner = American Idiot 2. Easy-Listening songs: winner = Dookie 3. Hits: winner = American Idiot 4. Essence of Green Day: winner = Dookie 5. Overall: winner = Dookie There it is, so shut up and stop fighting. You all admit together that Dookie is a bit better, although they are both fantastic Sort Of... (5 stars) I am a GD fan, and I mean no harm. You see, there are some good songs on American Idiot, but I like Dookie as well. I hope I've made my point, because I have tons more to say. 1. I can not listen to crude language. GD is a great band, but I would like the new GD if they did not use crude language. 2.They just express feelings. Go look at some of the WMUWSE Live reviews and find what the point of thier songs are. If you think I've said a BiographyFormed: 1988 in Berkeley, CAGenre: Alternative Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound of late-'70s punk to a new, younger generation with Dookie, their 1994 major-label debut. Dookie sold over ten million copies, paving the way for a string of multi-platinum...
