Bratty, snide, and brash but rarely sophomoric, Green Day's major label debut is an explosion of punk-pop pleasure. Three chords haven't sounded this good since the Ramones. Green Day's world is one of suburban revolution, where dad is covered in tats and mom burns the toast with a blowtorch. They've found the promise of the American Dream a joke, but don't know who's to blame. Songs like "Chump," "Long View," and "Emenius Sleeping" point the finger randomly, including back at themselves. Billie Joe Armstrong's adenoidal singing is ideally suited to these songs. With his faux British accent, he comes off as justifiably petulant. Dookie helped revived punk music, wrapping it in great pop songs like "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around," somehow making furious dissatisfaction fun again.

Great CD. It takes the fusion of pop and punk and creates a great sound. Sure, I said "pop", but all you narrowminded people out there who say that punk ABSOLUTELY CANNOT mix with pop, it's time to broaden your horizon. In regards to everyone as I took into account the majority opinion 1. Meaningful songs: winner = American Idiot 2. Easy-Listening songs: winner = Dookie 3. Hits: winner = American Idiot 4.
