A Classic Sleeper From Beginning To End (5 stars)
In these times of slickly produced, overly processed, sterile sounding, digital recordings; this Beasties date has the most organic, fattest, analog sounding music I've heard in years. They're not merely just rap maestros but are surprisingly good at playing their instruments. Who would have known? My favorite Beastie Boys album (5 stars)
This is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. I bought it on cassette the day it came out and when I popped it in the deck and pushed play and when the beat dropped I knew it was an instant classic. Those were in the days of my senior year in high school and smokin weed and driving around in my first car... ah the memories. As the first white rap group of any importance, the Beastie Boys received the scorn of critics and strident hip-hop musicians, both of whom accused them of cultural pirating, especially since they began as a hardcore punk group in 1981.
