A Hundred Million Suns – Snow PatrolView More By Snow Patrol Our ReviewAfter finally achieving success with their previous album, Eyes Open, Snow Patrol set out to balance between their newfound accessibility and a desire to break past all creative barriers. “Take Back the City” crackles with a tough pop-rock drive, singer Gary Lightbody channeling an urban energy and an ‘80s New Wave groove. The song’s obvious joy for living is more subtly weaved into the existential wallowing that haunts the space-themed tracks, “If There’s a Rocket Tie Me To It” and “The Planets Bend Between Us,” where Lightbody sounds less self-assured and more angst-ridden. “Lifeboats” uses a stereo-pan on Lightbody’s double-tracked vocals for a cool, disorienting effect. “The Golden Floor” evokes a spiritual dance with its tribal rhythm and dark keyboards. Recorded in both the bucolic Irish countryside and the urban frenzy of Berlin, A Hundred Millions Suns brilliantly plays between the two worlds, offering moments of contemplation and chaos. Then there’s the 16-minute finale, “The Lightning Strike,” where three movements build to the end of the world, dancing to the joyous finish. Snow Patrol are unafraid of their grand ambitions.. Customer ReviewsCHASING CARS THE BEST SONG?? (4 stars)First off, this is a great album, and though you can tell that Snow Patrol is maturing, they still continue with the base sound of what has made them a great band. However, for all you sheep who say this album doesn't have a hit song like Chasing Cars, please realize that song is not even CLOSE to their best song. It's a song that was created as a generic ballad for all the idiots out there who don't know true music. It's a radio push, This is no "Chasing Cars"... (4 stars) ...Thank God! I've recently been listening to Snow Patrol's older material...way back when they were an indie alternative group, very lo-fi stuff. I have to say I am becoming a huge fan of their '98 release of "Songs for Polarbears". It reallly has that lo-fi, made in the basement feel. Of course it is not for everyone, but I believe it is so much better than their "Eyes Open" and "Final Straw" material. I th Wow (5 stars) I have been a fan of Snow Patrol for a long time now, and I have to say this album just blows me away. My expectations were not that high after hearing their single but this album is amazing. I loved Final Straw and this one matches that album. I would suggest all SP fans to buy this album. BiographyFormed: 1994 in Dundee, ScotlandGenre: Alternative Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s After failing to secure an international audience for nearly ten years, Snow Patrol broke into the mainstream with 2003's Final Straw, a mega-selling album that showcased the band's fondness for epic, melancholic rock. The group had originally stuck closer to the pop realm, releasing quirky albums that took more cues from Belle & Sebastian than Coldplay (to whom the band would later draw many comparisons). Final Straw proved to be a turning point, however, paving...
