Your Man – Josh TurnerView More By Josh Turner Our ReviewEvery now and then, a young man with a deep voice steps into the country music spotlight — Wade Hayes, for instance, filled the role in the mid-‘90s. Josh Turner is the latest of this breed, but he’s also something more. His full-bodied baritone conveys a sense of history and heritage, not just masculinity. Your Man (2006), his second album, upholds country traditions without losing its connection with contemporary listeners. As both a songwriter and interpreter, Turner has a sure feel for the right tune. Whether he’s reaching back to revive Don Williams’ 1991 hit “Lord Have Mercy On A Country Boy” or tipping his hat to a honky-tonk icon with “Loretta Lynn’s Cadillac,” he embodies the Southern Everyman without affectation. Turner invokes his native region’s spiritual roots on “Me And God’ (a duet with the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley) and uses Biblical imagery to reaffirm a lover’s vow in “Would You Go With Me” (a recent country chart-topper). Even the album’s lighter fare — Josh’s rollicking duet with John Anderson, “White Noise,” for instance — has substance, and the title track is pure down-home seduction. Josh Turner sings deeply but, most importantly, Your Man displays real artistic depth as well.. Customer ReviewsGood Gracious Josh, That's Bettern' Cornbread. (5 stars)Man, the boy can sing. Sounding like a gospel-blues tune from the '40s — and featuring Turner's deep, rich baritone at the forefront — "Long Black Train" wrestled with the grand themes of temptation, salvation, death, and redemption.
