What's Going On (Remastered) – Marvin GayeView More By Marvin Gaye Our ReviewPersonal tragedy and professional frustration combined to lead Marvin Gaye into an extended period of inaction. When he reemerged, it was with a new kind of soul record, one that gave voice to his (and many others’) anger and worry. The Vietnam War, widespread ghetto drug abuse and a damaged environment all fed What’s Going On, an orchestrated suite that reflected the influences of jazz and rock more than those of the Motown hit machine that had fed Gaye’s career up until then. Famously, the label initially balked at the title single, but after its hit potential was proven, Gaye quickly completed the accompanying LP. The first in his long line of concept-driven albums, the vocally gorgeous What’s Going On is still many listeners’ favorite among Gaye’s albums – and all albums. This remastered edition includes two alternate bonus versions of “God is Love” and “Flyin’ High (in the Friendly Sky)” (“Sad Tomorrows”) from original 45-rpm releases.. Customer ReviewsWhats Goin on in the world today? (5 stars)This cd is literally very emotional and touching. The lyrics are very deep and come from the heart. It shows what was goin on back in the times of the VIetnam war, but also it can relate to us today in how the world is. If you don't want to buy the whole album, just buy the song WHATS GOIN ON which is literally one of the greatest songs I have ever heard and I love it so much. YOu will not be dissapointed with this song or even the album One of the greatest albums ever (5 stars) Marvin Gaye truly was a genius, and What's Going On is probably all the proof anyone could ask for. The whole album flows so smoothly that it feels like Marvin just decided to sit down for 40 minutes and tell you everything that's on his mind. Marvin seems to have had a very sensible attitude toward the world. His message is one of peace and love, and of social responsibility. He understood that all the stupid things people were arguing Done like Da Vinci did the Mona Lisa (5 stars) This is Marvin Gaye's magnum opus. A definite good buy if you are new to motown or just want to hear some good music. This album is revolutionary. The two bonus tracks are a great addition to the original release. They arent just there for more numbers.
