Wasting Light – Foo FightersView More By Foo Fighters Our ReviewFoo Fighters’ Dave Grohl still believes in rock ‘n’ roll. He plays it with the same passion and commitment he brought to Nirvana and to his own group for the past two decades. To kick off the next decade, Grohl took his band into his garage and recorded this album to analog tape with ferocious results. The opening screams of “Bridge Burning” and the hard rock guitar riffs immediately establish that Foo Fighters are stepping up their game. The seductive pop harmonies still underpin the hooks, but the energy behind these tracks is a live wire. Hüsker Dü and Sugar frontman Bob Mould joins the group for “Dear Rosemary,” and former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic adds bass and accordion to two tracks. Nevermind producer, Butch Vig, produced the sessions, giving everything a vicious bite. Even the single, “Rope,” keeps its fangs. The songwriting is straightforward and powerful. “These Days” is the quiet before the storm as the songs builds to its own climax. Every track delivers what this band has always promised.. Pat Smear is finally back in the fold on guitar after a 14 year exit from the band in 1997 and is a much welcomed addition. Butch Vig's production is top notch. I love that this album incorporates the craziness and raw energy of the very first album (which, in case you we're unaware, was basically a Dave Grohl solo album) and that the triple-threat of Dave, Chris & Pat's guitars are front an Disappointed (2 stars) Was really hoping for an awesome album. This doesn't really sound like them... BiographyFormed: 1995 in Seattle, WAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s During the last dark days of Nirvana in 1994, tapes of Dave Grohl's solo demos circulated among alt-rock royalty. Greg Dulli commented positively about them in more than one place, but few suspected that these homemade tapes would launch one of the biggest modern rock bands of the post-grunge era. As it turns out, that’s exactly what Grohl’s Foo Fighters became, perhaps the one band of the alt-rock revolution to enjoy continual success on the charts and on the road without a dip in popularity. It...
