Warning – Green DayView More By Green Day Our ReviewThe years have taught us that Billie Joe Armstrong is a tremendous pop songwriter. That he came to public attention via Green Day and the alternative rock explosion of the early- to mid-‘90s is a matter of fact. Armstrong has benefited from Green Day’s basic, primal attack. It’s put his melodies up front and allowed his recklessly funny, silly and poignant lyrics to plant themselves in our consciousness. Their mainstream success led some in the punk community to view the band with suspicion, but Armstrong never paid them any mind and kept his focus on writing the best songs he could. The occasional ballad or horn and string arrangement was to emphasize the song. Warning continues his grand tradition. The hooks are long and sharp. The title track immediately establishes itself as prime Green Day. The sashaying rhythms of “Blood, Sex and Booze” and “Fashion Victim,” the Kinks influence circling the five-minute (an opus by Green Day standards) “Misery,” the Ramones pump of “Church On Sunday,” the sing-along glee of “Castaway” all coalesce into easeful pop music in modest punk clothing.. Customer ReviewsWarning: Experimental Green Day (4 stars)When most people hear Green Day they usually think of the now amazingly popular (and for good reason) American Idiot or their older stuff like Dookie or Insomniac which shows off their punkier side. Not many people see Warning, Green Day's mid-point between Punk and Alternative. Whether it's the strange otherworldly sounds of "Misery" or the Dylan-esque "Hold On", this album should not be overlooked. With the new sound of warning:great cd (5 stars) wow after nimrod to make a cd this good. Thats hard to do. Best Green Day Record (5 stars) This is the best Green Day record in my opinion. They show a variation of music, from the hard-hitting "Castaway" to the soft ballad "Macy's Day Parade" to the musical "Misery". This album shows that Green Day is not just a punk band, but they have different styles. They wrote this album in a time of hardship, in fact they almost broke up. They came out strong and I love this album. BiographyFormed: 1988 in Berkeley, CAGenre: Alternative Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound of late-'70s punk to a new, younger generation with Dookie, their 1994 major-label debut. Dookie sold over ten million copies, paving the way for a string of multi-platinum...
