Van Halen II – Van HalenView More By Van Halen Our ReviewThis concise follow-up to the L.A.-based band's self-titled debut appeared less than a year after these shredders' first album. Van Halen had already injected chop-intensive heavy metal with a pop sensibility, campy humor, and the energy of punk rock (they once opened for the Germs at the Whiskey) on their debut. That record was years in the making and it shows. By comparison, Van Halen II sounds a little bit thrown-together, but not in a bad way. The music here is fun, loud and rad. Sometimes you think the band totally is aware of how stupid they can be, ("Dance the Night Away," "Beautiful Girls") while other times you think they must be idiot savants ("Bottoms Up," "Somebody Get Me a Doctor"). In either case, it's always so entertaining that it doesn't really matter.. Customer ReviewsVan Halen II (5 stars)Eddie & Alex rip and rule on this record. Essential for every guitar player and drummer to own this record. It's a great cd to learn all Ed's riff's and solo's. Dave and Mikey shine as well, but from a guitarist's point of view this is a must have cd!!! You can't go wrong with any VH record except maybe VH III ...i don't know what happened there... cheers D.O.A. (5 stars) This album bridges 1 and 3 making it 3- 5 star albums in a row every tune rocks they dont make halen like this anymore awesome (5 stars) this is an outstanding rock album.. the riffs are catchy and eddie just rips it up on the guitar if you get this album you wont be bummed/... spanish fly is awesome BiographyFormed: 1974 in Pasadena, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s With their 1978 eponymous debut, Van Halen simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefined what electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects that mimicked the sounds of machines and animals. It was wildly inventive and over the top, equaled only by vocalist David Lee Roth, who brought the role of a metal singer to near-performance art...
