The Exporation of Motherhood? (3 stars)
While Universal Mother did not wow the general public the way that I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got did, I don't think that I would say that it lacks a unifying concept. On the contrary, the theme of motherhood, with all the baggage from the past and the uncertain doing of the present, seems to thread through most of these songs. I could even imagine that she came up with this repetoire over time while singing to the baby, as silly as that

whoever reviewed this album for itunes must not have listened to it. like the previous reviewer says, it's all about motherhood, both personal and on a univeral level. these songs are spare in some places, but are heartfelt and deal with love, grief and wonder. this is perhaps my favorite Sinead album. it's so beatiful to listen to in the dark, headphones on, feeling her voice in your chest. it's a masterpiece.

Pull off a number or 2? My hide! (4 stars)
This album is delicate and is a bit soft in it's sound and delivery, but for the reviewer to say it lacks conceptual unity is asinine. Personally, I'm not a fan of concept records, and I'd prefer a less unified more diverse album over one that brings a lot of the same. Sinead has never been one to put filler songs on albums that you find in pop music.
