The Early Sounds of Prog. Rock (4 stars)
Genesis' sophmore album, this one really set the stage for what would be their rise to success in the progressive/arena rock genre, (during their days with Peter Gabriel.) It was their first true "progressive" effort, and you can tell; the recordings are longer, the solos are more extended, their are lots of strange sound effects, and the quiet periods are much longer. I started my Progressive Genesis journey here and did not immediately cling to it, though after many listens, and after falling in love with every effort they put forth through 1977, this one has grown on me as one of my favorite obscure prog albums of all time.
