The Woodstock Experience: Sly & The Family Stone – Sly & the Family StoneView More By Sly & the Family Stone Our ReviewDespite hitting the stage at 3:30 in the morning (all the major stars suffered with awful late night-early morning stage times), Sly & The Family Stone gave an energized performance that became a centerpiece of the Woodstock Festival and a highlight of the feature film. As one of the most well received appearances of the three-day festival, the group delivered a palpable energy. Their fourth album and best to date, Stand!, included the title track, “Everyday People,” “You Can Make It If Your Try” and “Dance to the Music,” and is featured here in re-mastered glory. The tracks form the centerpiece of their Woodstock performance. Five of the tracks have never been previously issued (“M’Lady,” “Sing a Simple Song,” “You Can Make It If You Try,” “Everyday People” and “Stand!”) and stand among a multitude of other funky highlights that showcase the group’s incredible instrumental and vocal repartee. Horns, keyboards, guitars and Sly’s infectious enthusiasm keeps the energy at top speed throughout.. Customer ReviewsA must for Sly fans. (5 stars)The five stars I gave this go to the studio album "Stand". This is easily my favorite album by them. Each song is great. I would give four stars to the Woodstock performance. I'd never heard them in concert very much before. They are tight! How they all stayed in sync with the crappy Woodstock sound system is beyond me. Sure,Sly sounds a little "schwacked" during his "Higher" talk, but his vocals & playing ar What a rip off (2 stars) DAMN!!!! The best track, the medley is only available if you purchase the entire album!!! - In these economic times, that stinks!!!! Shame on Apple, the record company and the Sly/Family Stone "corporation" "You Might Like To Hear My Organ!" (5 stars) .."Beat Is Nitty-Gritty!".."We Got To Live Together!"-Ohh; Yeah!-{You ask me who I most wanted to see over that Wet Woodstock Weekend; It was Sly & The Family Stone; Man!}-As the Movie & This "Live At Woodstock" Set attest; "Sylvester Stewart & His First Family Of Funk"; Totally blew the minds of those fortunate enough to catch them up there!-You don't really have to look or listen too hard BiographyFormed: 1967 in San Francisco, CAGenre: R&B/Soul Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s Sly & the Family Stone harnessed all of the disparate musical and social trends of the late '60s, creating a wild, brilliant fusion of soul, rock, R&B, psychedelia, and funk that broke boundaries down without a second thought. Led by Sly Stone, the Family Stone was comprised of men and women, and blacks and whites, making the band the first fully integrated group in rock's history. That integration shone through the music, as well as the group's message. Before Stone, very few soul and R&B...
