The Rising Tied – Fort MinorView More By Fort Minor Our ReviewThe Rising Tied is the debut effort from Fort Minor, the side project from Linkin Park leader Mike Shinoda. Shinoda intended the album as an outlet for his interest in hip-hop, which couldn’t always be adequately expressed within Linkin Park. Working with Jay-Z on 2004’s Collision Course album gave Shinoda the perfect in to pursue Fort Minor, which Jay-Z executive-produced. While Sean Carter himself doesn’t make an appearance, many heavy hitters do, including Common, John Legend and Black Thought. “Petrified,” “Kenji” and “Slip Out the Back” touch on the volcanic emotion of Linkin Park, but the best songs on The Rising Tied are the collaborations with underground rap crew Styles of Beyond, personal friends of Shinoda’s from way back. “Feel Like Home,” “Back Home” and “Believe Me” hold hip-hop bounce, hard-rock intensity, and storytelling virtuosity in easy balance. However, the song that best defines Shinoda’s aesthetic is “Right Now” where over a tensely layered beat Shinoda sketches a panoramic view of struggle and worry that extends from the inner-city projects to the suburbs and onto the battlefields of Iraq.. Customer ReviewsRemember the Name (5 stars)Remember the name Fort Minor because it's the best. The lyrics are the best rap lyrics i've ever heard in my life. I'm no newbie to rap. I've listened to rap my whole life so I know that Fort Minor is great. Most rappers are rapping about girls and all this nasty junk. Fort Minor raps about life which definently makes this CD a lot easier to listen to. On top of the genius lyrics every single song on this CD has a great beat. Definently wort Even If You Don't Like Rap, This Album Is Good! (5 stars) I hate ghetto rap where they talk about getting shot, stabbed, and having kids with women who they don't even know. This is an example of rap that's good and dosen't have the degrating lyrics that the other ones do. Almost every song is good. I don't like rap at all but I still love this album. Even if you don't like rap, give this a try! Want to Know What This Album is Like? Read This...Best Hip-Hop Album of All Time! (5 stars) Mike Shinoda (Mc of Linkin Park) has renewed my love in Rap. I have gotten so tired of listing to Rappers swearing every 13 words in a track. Finally someone has done Hip-Hop justice; I have only heard lyrical originality like this a couple times in my life. Heck, even my mother, who is 47 year old (Who hates Rap with a passion) loved Fort Minor, a miracle if I say so myself. Everyone should listen to Kenji at least once; I have never heard BiographyGenre: Hip Hop/RapYears Active: '00s In November 2005, Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda debuted as a solo artist with Rising Tied, an ambitious collection credited to his alter ego, Fort Minor, that blended hip-hop with electronics and rock elements. The set was exec-produced by Jay-Z, who had previously collaborated with Shinoda and Linkin Park on 2004's Collision Course. Tied also featured plenty of guests like Common and John Legend, as well as newer artists from Shinoda's Machine Shop imprint. The album was a labor of love for...
