In 1993 E-40 released his second album on his own imprint (Sic-Wid-It) and personally distributed it on the streets of the Bay Area. As they had done with 40’s first album, Jive Records reissued The Mail Man in 1994 and distributed it nationally. Jive had a history of altering their reissues of Sic-Wid-It albums, but thankfully, they left The Mail Man mostly untouched. In fact, they added a bonus track: “Ballin’ Outta Control,” an anthem for all the street youngsters “makin’ cabbage.” “Bring the Yellow Tape” and “The Mail Man” build on the blueprint of Federal, but this abbreviated album is notable for the inclusion of 40’s first verifiable anthems. “Captain Save a Hoe” became one of many catchphrases in 40’s career, but on “Practice Lookin’ Hard” the rapper got to show his social consciousness: “Bloody murder, crime, drugs, folks smokin' / Man I remember when it used to be cool to leave ya screen door open… I guess we're livin' in the last days / ‘Cause in the last days the Bible speaks of AIDS / Plagues, brothers killin' brothers, earthquakes.”

Great Album, Wrong Names (5 stars)
This is by far the best album from E-40, but who the hell put this album on iTunes? Tracks 4, 5, and 6 are all labeled wrong. Not that E-40 did it or anything.

Just a small notice to those buying this album. Songs 4,5, and 6 are not labeled with the correct song titles. Still worth every penny. Great album

The rhymes are tight, the beats good. A must have album. If you are an real E 40 fan you should have this in your collection....ballin outta control with Levitti, save a ho, and Neva broke.....

Synonymous with Bay Area rap, E-40 garnered a regional following, and eventually a national one, with his flamboyant raps, while his entrepreneurial spirit, embodied by his homegrown record label, Sick Wid' It Records, did much to cultivate a flourishing rap scene to the east of San Francisco Bay, in communities such as Oakland and his native Vallejo. Along with Too Short, Spice 1, and Ant Banks, E-40 was among the first Bay Area rappers to sign to a major label, penning a deal with Jive Records...
