The Joshua Tree (Deluxe Edition) [Remastered] – U2View More By U2 Our Review1987’s The Joshua Tree cemented U2’s status as one of the 1980s preeminent groups. From Bono’s anguished cries from Mount Olympus and the Edge’s serrated guitar riffs to the rhythm section’s punishing marches and the Brian Eno-Daniel Lanois production team’s desert atmospherics, the album presented some of the band’s most memorable material in its most drastic form to date, assimilating the band’s initial post-punk energy with their fascination and immersion in American roots music. “With or Without You,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” and especially the often overlooked “Running to Stand Still” shimmer with intensity, nuance and elegant style. The 2007 re-mastered and expanded edition includes 14 additional glimpses at the group during this creatively fertile time, including the single edit of “Streets,” the Sun City version of “Silver and Gold” with the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Ron Wood, several notable fan faves such as “Luminous Times (Hold On to Love)” and “Spanish Eyes” and a few improvisatory pieces (“Drunk Chicken/ America” with beat poet Allen Ginsberg) that provide insight into the band’s creative process.. Customer ReviewsWarning to "Complete U2" Owners... (5 stars)I spent $50.00 on U2's The Joshua Tree Remastered Limited Edition 2CD + DVD set, ripped it to iTunes @ 256 AAC and think my iTunes Store purchased "Complete U2 - The Joshua Tree" sounds better (even at [the lower] 128 AAC level). For whatever reason the "The Joshua Tree" version contained in iTunes' "The Complete U2" comes off clearer (and louder?) than both the new Island remaster and the old/Mobile Fidelity So What Mastering Does: (5 stars) 1. Volume Level Maximization 2. Ensuring a Consistent Balance of Frequencies 3. Noise Reduction 4. Encoding 5. Error Checking This ensures the integrity of the data stream during CD duplication / replication at any CD manufacturing plant. REMASTERING STINKS!!! DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM!!! (1 star) THE SONIC FIDELITY OF THIS CLASSIC ALBUM, ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME IS DESTROYED BY DIGITAL COMPRESSION!!! I JUST COMPARED EVERY SONG! NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT IN A BLIND HEADPHONE TEST WITH MY GIRLFRIEND WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC AND SHE PICKED THE ORIGINAL 1987 CD EVERYTIME! IF YOU BUY THIS - YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A SLIGHTLY LOUDER VOLUME, BUT YOU WILL LOSE CLARITY, SPACIOUSNESS, THE DELICATILY OF THE HIGHS AND LOWS AND DIGITA BiographyFormed: 1976 in Dublin, IrelandGenre: Rock Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands of the '80s. They were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal, equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements about politics and religion. The Edge provided the group with a signature sound by creating sweeping sonic landscapes with his heavily processed, echoed guitars. Though the Edge's style wasn't conventional,...
