The Greatest Hits Collection, Vol. II – Brooks & DunnView More By Brooks & Dunn Our ReviewThe second volume of hits from Brooks & Dunn’s career covers the period between 1998’s If You See Her and 2003’s Red Dirt Road. If the duo’s pre-1998 hits show them conquering Nashville, then the songs included here aim for an audience beyond country radio. “Red Dirt Road,” “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You,” and “You Can’t Take the Honky Tonk” belong to rock and pop as much as they do country. Meanwhile “Only In America” has such broad appeal that it was used by Presidents from two different parties. It was George Bush’s campaign song in 2004, and was played again when Barack Obama accepted his nomination at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Brooks and Dunn can create hits with enormous appeal, but some of the best songs on Greatest Hits Collection II are the ones that slipped through the cracks. “Independent Trucker” is a throwback to the highway anthems of Red Simpson and Dick Curless, while “That’s What She Gets For Loving Me” (from Red Dirt Road) has a soulfulness worthy of Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham.. Customer ReviewsThe title of the cd says it all (5 stars)Every one of these songs is good. The first greatest hits cd was of their older music and this one has their newer songs on it. They are Only in America, Ain't Nothing 'Bout You, Red Dirt Road (One of my favorites),You Can't Take the Honky Tonk Out of the Girl, and That's What It's All About. As I said not very good. BiographyFormed: 1988 in Nashville, TNGenre: Country Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s The undisputed kings of the '90s line-dancing craze, Brooks & Dunn are not only the biggest-selling duo in country music history, they've also sold more records than any other duo period, including Simon & Garfunkel. Ronnie Dunn was the quietly intense singer with the soulful voice, while Kix Brooks played the part of the high-energy showman. Neither had been able to break through as a solo act, but together they hit upon a winning formula of rambunctious, rocked-up honky tonk with punchy,...
