The Concert (40th Anniversary Edition) [Live] – Creedence Clearwater RevivalView More By Creedence Clearwater Revival Our ReviewCreedence Clearwater Revival were a late-‘60s AM-radio hit-making juggernaut who earned their stripes as a hard-working bar band, so it’s no surprise to hear them at the height of their powers live in concert. This performance from January 31, 1970 at the Oakland Coliseum, California, presents the hits (“Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” “Down On the Corner”), the rockers (“Green River,” “Travelin’ Band,” “Fortunate Son”) and the swamp blues (“Born On the Bayou,” “Tombstone Shadow,” “Keep On Chooglin’”) that made CCR the surefire Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band that they are. Fueled by the crowd and his natural adrenaline, singer John Fogerty delivers the lyrics with an extra bite and the two guitars twist through the songs with pure menace. The pace is accelerated, predating punk but recalling the pure energy of a rockabilly ensemble. The country inflections of “Don’t Look Now” and the nod to the blues with the old folk classic popularized by Leadbelly “The Midnight Special” display even more of the band’s ever-present musical roots.. Customer ReviewsSame Songs, Same Packaging, New Improved Name. (4 stars)When i saw this advertised as a (40th Anniversary Edition) i thought cool maybe this is the whole concert. But NO, this is the same 14 songs we have always had. Don't get me wrong i love this live album, just thought there was to be more. One of the Most Overlooked Bands of the 70's. (4 stars) Always known as a greatest hits band (yet their catalog is full of deep cut gems) this live album is another set of raw rocking sludge swamp rock n' roll. Nothing gets much better than this! Creedence live on their home turf in 1970 (4 stars) After reissuing bonus-track laden CDs of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s first six albums, Fantasy’s new owner, the Concord Music Group, adds a straight (no bonus tracks) reissue of the group’s 1970 concert at the Oakland (California) Coliseum. While many bands’ live shows sound like their records, in Creedence’s case their studio albums had the muscle of their live shows. The difference may be lost on some, but it was never lost on BiographyFormed: 1967 in El Cerrito, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s At a time when rock was evolving further and further away from the forces that had made the music possible in the first place, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back to their roots with their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Though CCR was very much a group in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty's. Fogerty's classic compositions for Creedence both evoked enduring images of Americana...
