The Best of… The Great American Songbook – Rod StewartView More By Rod Stewart Our ReviewAs one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century, Rod Stewart has worked his way through so many styles beyond his early days as a soul singer of hard-rock and folk-rock compositions that it was only a matter of time before he landed in the Great American Songbook. After successfully battling thyroid cancer and relearning to sing, Stewart recorded five albums of material written by the likes of Jerome Kern, Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal, Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne and George and Ira Gershwin, and this collection distills those albums into one coherent highlight reel. The previously unreleased “You’ll Never Know” is added to spice up this collection of clean and professional takes on standards known the world over. Stewart’s voice is a modern marvel and its texture, matched with his impeccable phrasing, is always illuminating. “What a Wonderful World,” “The Way You Look Tonight” and “Someone to Watch Over Me” are immediate standouts, but, really, with a lineup like this, there are no weak tunes.. Customer ReviewsFor Lovers!!!!! (4 stars)Rod is still the one! Best music, best lyrics, best music for lovers. Additionally I'd like to recommend a great album for Valentine's day: LOVE DAY CHILL. Great (5 stars) Rocking or crooning, Rod Stewart has what it takes. Having seen Frank Sinatra perform live... (5 stars) What makes this series so rare is that the 4 volumes all compliment each other. Great for the holidays, dinnertime, when company is over, right before you go to sleep etc. My favorite duet is the one with Cher from volume 2 but if you dont happen to care for an artist that Rod is duetting with rest BiographyBorn: January 10, 1945 in London, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Rod Stewart may have begun his career as a respected singer, yet that critical respect eroded as he got older, as he became more concerned with stardom and adult contemporary songcraft than the rock music that launched him. While he has recorded some terrible albums — and he would admit that freely — Stewart was once rock & roll's best interpretive singer as well as an accomplished songwriter, creating a raw combination of folk, rock, blues, and country that sounded like no other...
