Ten Thousand Fists – DisturbedView More By Disturbed Our ReviewThe third album by Chicago metal-mongers Disturbed finds them fusing the muscular ambitions that spawned their wildly successful debut and Believe, its heavier, classic-metal fueled 2002 follow-up. Ten Thousand Fists has a more refined, focused sense of songcraft and some welcome textural restlessness. The opening/title track ably sets up the album’s anxious, head-bangers-with-hooks sensibility, while the standout “Stricken” pumps personal politics into a thumping maelstrom.“Deify” and the arena-ready anthem “I’m Alive” find singer David Draiman furiously exorcising the personal demons of his fundamentalist upbringing to various degrees. But strong first-half cuts like the staccato-rhythmed “Guarded” and riff-fest “Just Stop” also point-up the album’s Achilles heel: a second act whose obligatory dirge (“Overburdened”), more manic moments (“Decadence,” “Avarice”), and left-field pop conceits (a surprisingly effective cover of Phil Collins’ “Land of Confusion”) can’t quite match the forceful aura of its first half.. Customer ReviewsGreat Metal!!! (5 stars)Metal is not rocket science. The formula for a good metal album is quite easy: loud, agressive, thought provoking, and an occasional slow-down, just for kicks. Disturbed definitely do not disappoint. The band's sound continues to evolve, but not to the point of losing their fundamental elements. Dave Draiman's vocals are unique and amazing. And the songs, especially "Ten Thousand Fists," "Guarded," and "Stricken THIS CD ROCKS (5 stars) disturbed amazes me once again, this cd rocks, i like every single song and you can listen through the whole thing which is rare in cds these days, i reccomend "Guarded" "Just Stop" and "I'm Alive" if your reading this go out and buy this cd you wont regret it Best. Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family against which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago's...
