Tea for the Tillerman – Cat StevensView More By Cat Stevens Our ReviewCat Stevens was one of the most talented, prolific, and commercially successful singer-songwriters of the 1970s, and Tea for the Tillerman is one of his finest efforts. Released in 1970, it’s a showcase for his considerable songwriting skills and ability to clearly covey his ideas and make emotional connections with listeners. Blessed with a rich, warm voice that’s instantly identifiable, his sincerity and passion are evident. The lyrics are direct and often simple (not to say simplistic) and cover grand themes: the downside of modern life (“Where Do the Children Play?”), spirituality and the search for meaning (“On the Road to Find Out,” “Miles From Nowhere,” “But I Might Die Tonight”), love and loss (“Wild World”), and the pain that comes with finding your own way (“Father and Son”). The music itself is similarly sweeping, with buoyant melodies and thoughtful arrangements on every track. Stevens, who plays keyboards and guitar, is supported by a solid band that creates a lush foundation on lead guitar, upright bass, drums, solo violin, and strings. Stunning and enduring, Tea for the Tillerman is a classic.. Customer ReviewsTea for the Tillerman: Cat Stevens (5 stars)I ordered this album to give to my son, who is 24. I am a combat survivor from the "conflict" in Vietnam and I have continued to survive the 60's,70's,80's,90's and I am still here. This was a very important album to me because when I arrived back in the States off of River Patrol Boats I had already done some very serious combat at the age of 20 and I remember thinking, one time, when I was very stoned, "If I ever have a son A constant favorite (5 stars) I can't remeber a time when I didn't know every word to the songs on this album. It seems like my mom has been playing this these songs in the car for ever. There are so many good memories attached to this record for me. There is never more than a couple weeks were I don't go and listen to this album non-stop. As a teenager that might be a little weird, it doesn't exaclty fit in with most of the music that I listen to, but Cat Stevens is Haunting (5 stars) Fantastic ...The Cat that keeps me comming back..I grew up on this album, have owned it on tape, and now my daughter loves it too..
