Standing On the Shoulder of Giants – OasisView More By Oasis Our ReviewRecorded during a time of transition and turmoil for Oasis, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is the band’s densest and most ambitious work. Much of the album’s electronic embellishments can be attributed to the absence of founding members Paul “Bonehead” Arthur and Paul Mcguigan, who quit the band midway through recording, leaving Noel and Liam Gallagher and drummer Alan White to play all the parts themselves. While the mounting pressure and lack of camaraderie resulted in some overly labored moments (“Who Feels Love?” and “Gas Panic!” for example), some of the studio experiments help the band break into fresh territory. “F***in’ in the Bushes” is a ferocious instrumental that melds Led Zeppelin riffs to Chemical Brothers rhythms, while “Where Did It All Go Wrong” and “Go Let It Out” are effective pieces of modern psychedelia that shuffle along to the sound of their own subterranean rhythm. Even better is the hammering rock of “Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is,” a layered track that combines the insolence of 1993-era Oasis with the aural ambitions of 2000-era Oasis. And while Liam’s songwriting debut “Little James” is no “Wonderwall,” it once again proves that no one can pull off a gloriously soppy ballad better than the Gallagher brothers.. Customer ReviewsVery Underrated Album (5 stars)Some say it's their worst, not that that's an insult because Oasis "worse" tunes can be favorably compared to any other bands "best" work. Stand out tracks are "go let it out" "gas panic!" "where did it all go wrong" and "sunday morning call" which is one of the band's best song in years. Thick, Juicy, Sonic Ecstasy!!! (5 stars) I've heard all the Oasis "Hits" on the radio and always said I liked them a lot... but I just listened to this album all the way through and it blew me away! Incredible! The first four tracks are wicked sick! The only song I didn't like was Sunday Morning Call. I could listen to the first four songs over and over and over again. Really... they're THAT good! Truly a classic album.. (5 stars) no doubt about it. BiographyFormed: 1993 in Manchester, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s Oasis shot from obscurity to stardom in 1994, becoming one of Britain's most popular and critically acclaimed bands of the decade in the process. Along with Blur and Suede, they were responsible for returning British guitar pop to the top of the charts. Led by guitarist/songwriter Noel Gallagher, the Manchester quintet adopted the rough, thuggish image of the Stones and the Who, crossed it with "Beatlesque" melodies and hooks, injected distinctly British lyrical themes and song structures like the...
