A previously unreleased 2011 live version of “The Sound of Silence” from Webster Hall and Aretha Franklin’s rendition of “Bridge over Troubled Water” are two surprises, with the new “Silence” giving us a modern look into the old chestnut as Simon interprets it quite differently. Simon obviously values all aspects of his career and balances his well-known ‘70s and ‘80s work with the much-overlooked accomplishments of the following two decades. He includes three songs from his satisfying So Beautiful or So What album and rescues the gorgeous “Born in Puerto Rico” from the unfairly maligned Capeman project. However, he doesn’t avoid his obvious hits either (though, at only 32 tracks, he does have to leave some off). “Mother and Child Reunion,” “Late in the Evening,” “Still Crazy After All These Years,” “Graceland,” and “The Boy in the Bubble” are all here, as well as the affecting “Hearts and Bones,” “The Cool, Cool River” and “Peace Like a River.” His greatness is truly humbling.. There are literally 6 different PS greatest hits collections out there now, so why oh why do we need this one? To make matters worse, the few "rare or unreleased recordings" are "album only", so those of us that have all of these songs already cannot get the new ones here, without bu How does one chose only 32? (5 stars) I would have chosen the same Paul! Wish it were 40, with Cecilia.....and Dazzling Blue.....and Thelma....but Bridge Over Troubled Water with Aretha makes up for any ommisions. Love love love! Unfortunate for follows of Paul from the beginning... (5 stars) Saw Paul in Santa Barbara a couple weeks ago and was completely amazed at his 'solo' version of Sound of Silence'. That song performed by just him and his guitar would have been worth the admission price. So, I was REALLY disappointed to see that iTunes is only offering that particular version with the purchase of the entire album.
