Slowhand (Remastered) – Eric ClaptonView More By Eric Clapton Our ReviewIn ten dizzying years, Eric Clapton soared from the Yardbirds' ambitious blues journeyman to the guitar god of Cream and Derek and the Dominoes, then plummeted to the dregs of heroin addiction. When he finally kicked the habit and got his musical career back on track in the mid '70s with 461 Ocean Boulevard and this more successful follow-up, it struck more than a few fans that Clapton now seemed more interested in the laid-back, country-blues ethos of Don Williams than his own fret-burning legend. His greasy-rhythm hit cover of J.J. Cale's "Cocaine" not only underscored the point, but quickly became one of the signature songs of Clapton's career. The even more lush and languorous romantic ballad "Wonderful Tonight" proves his newfound troubadour jones was no fluke, nor his more restrained, lyrical fretwork a mere passing fancy.. Customer ReviewsThe Core (4 stars)Best Clapton song you never heard. The best album by Clapton? (5 stars) Great album, arguably EC's best. Title tells it all, as it is his nickname. Two of Eric's best known hits (Cocaine, Wonderful Tonight) are on here, but it is sleeper hits, such as The Core, and Next Time You See Her, that make this album worth the purchase. If you are a true EC fan (and don't already own this), it is a definite purchase. Mr. Slowhand Eric Clapton! (5 stars) This is perhaps Clapton's best solo album. It's alike in style with that 461 Ocean Blvd. feel. Clapton knows how to perfectly shift from one mood of music to the other, that's what is so great about this album and 461 Ocean Blvd. Slowhand is more of a powerful driving blues as exemplified by Cocaine, and in ways it is soft also (Wonderful Tonight). That it took Clapton so long to go out on his own, however, was evidence of a degree of reticence unusual for one of his stature....
