Slipstream – Bonnie RaittView More By Bonnie Raitt Our ReviewBonnie Raitt's first album in seven years features two sets of sessions: one self-produced with her road band and the other with producer Joe Henry and his choice of studio musicians. Raitt had spent the previous years dealing with the loss of family, and her performances are partly a tribute to them. It's apparent in the soulfulness of the closing ballad—Henry's "God Only Knows"—and symbolized by her renditions of two Bob Dylan songs: "Million Miles" and "Standing in the Doorway." They carry a darkness that Raitt plays off of with her mature stylings. Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line" aches with empathy, and there are a few tasteful shots of Raitt's slide guitar among the mild reggae grooves. Henry and Loudon Wainwright III's "You Can't Fail Me Now" (performed by LWIII in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up) is given a soulful, R&B feel. Raitt's confidence, her natural abilities, and her desire to shift gears from the jukejoint-worthy "Down to You" to the sultry nightclub number "Take My Love with You" prove how her love and respect for her music make her a talent not to be trifled with.Customer ReviewsThe Perfect Balance! (5 stars)MAN! Running thru the first listen I could not help but being brought back to the late 70's, as a college kid, when I heard her first self titled album (from '71) and listened the stylus right thru it! Listening again to this album and reviewing my Raitt library, this album is a perfect balance of all the styles, influences and albums she has released. She has evolved, but, I feel, stayed true to her roots and vision as an artist. Even aft The Blues Queen (5 stars) Bonnie Raitt is 62 and has taken fantastic care of her voice. She sounds just as great here as she does on Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw with some great songs to showcase her guitar skills as well as her unique, hypnotic, bluesy voice. The 7 year wait has most definitely been worth it. She is a master craftsman with versatility perhaps only paralleled by Linda Ronstadt. Just close your eyes and feel the music flow through your veins. Sim Bonnie at her best! (5 stars) Long awaited and as good as she's ever been. Classic Bonnie blues and ballads. Totally sweet performance. Love it! Born in Burbank, CA, on November 8, 1949, she was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring performances in such smashes...
