Santana Virtuosity At It’s Best (5 stars)
I am completely dumfounded that no one before me has written a review on this the supreme Santana LP! I was a freshman in college when this came out, and I know that some of you out there will write this off as the ravings of an aging sentimentalist. So be it. But even then, I knew that this was something special. The breakout Santana LP proved that Latin influences had a place at the table, and the Abraxas LP took those themes to heady

This is one of the finest albums ever recorded. The diversity here is astounding. I have listened to this music hundreds of times over the last 3 decades, and never tire of its beauty. To say that it is profound is a severe understatement...

What can I say? The early Santana band WAS, IS and ALWAYS will be my all-time favorite band! I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area listening to Santana live at every opportunity I got .... the early Santana band in which this album represents the last of the original lineup... was their BEST! Santana is the primary exponent of Latin-tinged rock, particularly due to its combination of Latin percussion (congas, timbales, etc.) with bandleader Carlos Santana's distinctive, high-pitched lead guitar playing. The group was the last major act to emerge from the psychedelic San Francisco music scene of the 1960s and it enjoyed massive success at the end of the decade and into the early '70s.
