Rumours – Fleetwood MacView More By Fleetwood Mac Our ReviewReleased in 1977, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all-time (over 30 million worldwide and counting), as it practically defined FM-radio in the late-‘70s with its flexible, soothing rhythms, spritely mix of acoustic and electric guitars, alluring harmonies and memorable tunes. It also firmly re-established the group that once had been among the leaders in the British blues movement as the consummate pop group of the era as first suggested on their previous self-titled album. The group’s three main songwriters each carved out their territory within the group’s laid-back Southern California identity — as their romantic lives with each other were falling apart. Singer Stevie Nicks had a touch of mystic (“Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman”). Keyboardist Christine McVie wrote universal anthems (“Don’t Stop,” “Songbird”) and Lindsey Buckingham churned out dynamic pop confectionaries with undercurrents of emotional distress (“Second Hand News,” “Go Your Own Way”). Collectively, the group worked up “The Chain,” a dramatic, multi-layered tour de force pieced together from a series of failed sessions. Spinning tragedy into gold was clearly their métier.. Customer ReviewsWell-crafted & played pop; at the top of their game (5 stars)Yes, the rock critics hated it because it appealed to the masses, but this is the real thing -- good stuff by good artists at the top of their game. These songs, like some of the best Beatle and McCartney pieces, teach us what heights a well-crafted pop song can attain in the hands of talented, committed artists who possess both the chops and the subtlety of restraint. Lindsay Buckingham's guitar work on this album deserves recognition as on An Icon (5 stars) I was in 6th grade when this album came out. I didn't understand love, obsession, betrayal at the time and didn't understand "Second Hand News" or "The Chain." Yet, dimly I recognized the musical genius behind this icon of the 70's rock scene. It remains as fresh and amazingly powerful today as it was then. Its not hard to see why this album has retained it relevancy to culture and withstood the test of time. AnOriginal, Timeless, Flawless, One-Of-A-Kind Group Effort Masterpiece (5 stars) The best of three brilliant songwriters---not a single weak link in 'the chain,' yet no one ever outshines the other. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its...
