Rock 'n' Roll (Remastered) – John LennonView More By John Lennon Our ReviewBecause John Lennon was one of the 20th century’s great songwriters, it’s sometimes overlooked that he was also one of the era’s great rock ‘n’ roll singers. His steely, passionate tone—often couched in slapback echo, excessive reverb, and other complicated vocal effects—made him one of the era’s distinctive stylists. Throughout his career with The Beatles, The Plastic Ono Band, and as a solo artist, he performed many of his old rock ‘n’ roll favorites. Lennon began recording this collection of ‘50s rock standards with producer Phil Spector in 1973. Spector was involved in a serious car accident and couldn’t continue, so Lennon eventually finished the sessions a year later in four days. As he busts through the works of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, and Fats Domino, Lennon is sometimes loose (“You Can’t Catch Me”), sometimes solemn (“Stand by Me”), and often raucous (“Medley: Ready Teddy/Rip It Up,” “Sweet Little Sixteen”). This loving tribute to the music he grew up with was the last anyone heard from Lennon for five years, until he finally returned with a batch of new material in 1980 that became Double Fantasy.. Customer ReviewsBest Heard LOUD (5 stars)Play this album as loud as you can stand it. It's a great homage to the songs & artists that inspired Lennon in his early years. Great Cover Album (5 stars) I've listened to this album since the 70s. I had it on vinyl. John's covers are classics and amazing. I couldn't resist getting the remastered version. (5 stars) i recommend buying at least, one song on mind games. one of the better, later ones. BiographyBorn: October 09, 1940 in Liverpool, EnglandGenre: Rock Years Active: '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s Out of all the Beatles, John Lennon had the most interesting — and frustrating — solo career. Lennon was capable of inspired, brutally honest confessional songwriting and melodic songcraft; he also had a tendency to rest on his laurels, churning out straight-ahead rock & roll without much care. But the extremes, both in his music and his life, were what made him fascinating. Where Paul McCartney was content to be a rock star, Lennon dabbled in everything from revolutionary politics...
