Pendulum (40th Anniversary Edition) [Remastered] – Creedence Clearwater RevivalView More By Creedence Clearwater Revival Our ReviewThough they enjoyed incredible success as a hit-making machine for several years around the turn of the 1970s, Creedence Clearwater Revival were looking to expand their influence and balance the personalities of the group. Singer-songwriter John Fogerty led the group with a natural knack for the three minute single. “Hey Tonight,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and “Molina” represent the best of that work here on Creedence’s sixth studio album. However, there are obvious changes to the group’s sound. “Sailor’s Lament” includes a female backup group and elsewhere horns and keyboards augment the band’s once simple, skeletal, two-guitar, bass and drum attack. Upon release the album received mixed reviews, however, it has since proven to be a very mature release, making up in texture what it lacks in the band’s natural aggression (“Chameleon,” “It’s Just A Thought”). “Rude Awakening #2” is a bizarre departure for the group into progressive rock, but nothing compared to the bonus track “45 Revolutions Per Minute (Parts 1&2)” included on the album’s 40th Anniversary Edition that’s an oddly self-indulgent piece of studio theater.. Customer ReviewsThe Great American Band’s last LP as a foursome (4 stars)With Concord Music Group having purchased the Fantasy catalog, the fortieth anniversary of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s debut LP provides a suitable opportunity for a fresh round of reissues. All six of the original foursome’s albums (from 1968’s Creedence Clearwater Revival through 1970’s Pendulum) have been struck from new digital masters and augmented by previously unreleased tracks. BiographyFormed: 1967 in El Cerrito, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s At a time when rock was evolving further and further away from the forces that had made the music possible in the first place, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back to their roots with their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Though CCR was very much a group in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty's. Fogerty's classic compositions for Creedence both evoked enduring images of Americana...
