Nuthin' Fancy (Remastered) – Lynyrd SkynyrdView More By Lynyrd Skynyrd Our ReviewBy 1975, Lynyrd Skynyrd were best known for helping invent the power ballad with “Freebird,” and defining the good-time, down-home feel of Southern rock on “Sweet Home Alabama.” Under pressure to deliver even more gold-standard rock ’n’ roll anthems, the band stripped down to its bare essence and delivered Nuthin’ Fancy, a lean cut of hard rock garnished with sandpaper grit. The title song is one of Skynyrd’s defining moments, a vivid chronicle of late-night violence from someone who had seen his fair share; unexpectedly, the song closes with a subtle anti-gun message. “Cheatin’ Woman,” “I’m a Country Boy,” and “On the Hunt” are blues songs on the band’s terms: slow, sulking, and kneaded with Florida dirt. There was always something forlorn lying behind Skynyrd’s swagger, and Nuthin’ Fancy revealed this somber undercurrent. In a bid for radio acceptance “Am I Losin’” brought the band’s taste for wistful ballads dangerously close to Eagles territory, but “Railroad Song” and “Whiskey Rock-A-Roller” — redeeming tributes to a life of lonely hauls and tough travel — rang truer.. Customer ReviewsFAB (5 stars)This is probably skynyrd's best work. These songs will stick to you like gravy. If you like this one you should try gimme back my bullets. Bare bones rock at its best, and a little country thrown in for flavor. If Ronnie Van Zandt was around today, rock and roll would be a better place to live. Listen people its there for the taking! Good Solid Album (4 stars) This is a very good album that i still enjoy listening to. "On The Hunt" is one of Skynyrd's best songs. I suggest you check it out. I love it!! (5 stars) I own all the Skynyrd albums and this one doesn't dissapoint. I really enjoy Cheatin Woman and Saturday Night Special. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band — they may have jammed endlessly on-stage, but their music remained firmly entrenched in blues, rock, and country. For many, Lynyrd Skynyrd's redneck image tended to obscure the songwriting skills of...
