Night Shades – Cobra StarshipView More By Cobra Starship Our ReviewAfter listening to Cobra Starship’s fourth album, it’s difficult to believe that Gabe Saporta started the band as a joke. It’s not that Night Shades takes itself seriously, but some serious work went into crafting this near-perfect party album. The amorous power-pop opener “You Belong to Me” starts strong with romantic lyrics crooned over a synthesizer-dappled soundscape before Cobra Starship takes flight with “You Make Me Feel.” Featuring Britney Spears collaborator Sabi, this is a powerhouse of a dance- floor smash that plays like Lady Gaga going back in time three decades for the sole purpose of reinventing new wave. OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder gives “#1Nite (One Night)” his King Midas touch which closely recalls Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love.” Female French rock band Plastiscines make an awesome appearance on “Fool Like Me” — easily the catchiest tune here. The triumphant dance anthem “Disaster Boy” is another gem with Victoria Asher’s keytar and demure vocals giving the tune some ‘80s-inspired cool. Of the three bonus tracks, Shaggy’s cameo on “Anything For Love” is a standout.. Customer ReviewsBuy "You Make Me Feel..." and avoid the rest (2 stars)After hearing "You Make Me Feel...", I was hooked and wanted more from Cobra Starship. Mind you, I loved their debut song for the film "Snakes on a Plane" ever since it premiered but I didn't find Starship until their '11 addition. What can I say? "Night Shades" is an utter disappointment chock full of dry ballads, excessively synthesized club anthems, and replete with boredom. I could care less if they "ch What happened to the good old cobra starship? : (1 star) Cobra Starship used to be a completely original band, I had never heard anything like "while the city sleeps we rule the streets" or "viva la cobra" before ever (and I still haven't). they were more than just a party pop band then, like the songs "one day robots will cry" is still one of my favorite songs and "smile for the paparazzi" is right along side that. They have lost their originality to simply Sell Outs. (1 star) Nothing here stands out from the mainstream trash released now days. It's just Repetative, Tiresome and generic sounding music. You could sense in Hot Mess they wanted to move away from you know, having actual instruments in their band to fake synth instruments. Now they've completley sold out to whatever will make them a quick $$ 1Nite is catchy, but this band had so much potential to make great music, any ban BiographyFormed: 2005 in New York, NYGenre: Alternative Years Active: '00s, '10s As the legend of Cobra Starship would have it, frontman Gabe Saporta fled into the deserts of Arizona one day to find the true meaning of his existence away from his emo-rock band, Midtown. Saporta spent days and nights pondering life, mysterious lights constantly plaguing the nighttime sky above him. One distinct night, the lights became so mesmerizing that Gabe became catatonic and started levitating into the air. A snake suddenly came out of nowhere, bit his neck, and he awoke to find a talking...
