Nashville Skyline – Bob DylanView More By Bob Dylan Our ReviewBob Dylan had already flirted with hillbilly inspired songwriting on 1967's John Wesley Harding. By 1969, Nashville Skyline found him again changing (or channeling) personas, this time singing country music with a throaty drawl and a humble "aw shucks" tone to his demeanor. A reworking of "Girl From The North Country" (here with Johnny Cash lending his signature baritone to the ballad) gave the song a new life, changing it from a third-party breakup letter to something that sounds like a couple of drinking buddies musing on the same gal from inside an old saloon. Nashville Skyline's often covered hit "Lay Lady Lay" should ring a few bells for the album's uninitiated, while the bouncy "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" showed that Dylan's inner bumpkin could write and sing swooning love songs that held up to everything penned and recorded by any of his prior personas.. Customer ReviewsA Terrific Album (5 stars)God do I love this album! From the gorgeous opening duet with Johnny Cash right down to the ending track, one of my favorite Dylan ballads, "Tonight, I'll Be Staying Here With You". This album opened up the door for me to get into a lot of the classic country & western music of the 60's and early 70's. Dylan's voice is sweet here, fits the music perfectly. Dylan shows how adept he is at performing different styles of music, fol Psychedelic Skyline? (4 stars) So, absolutely an amazing record. Released in 1969, during the Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead period of psychedelic rock, Dylan completely blew everyone's mind with a country record that opens with a Johnny Cash duet. So, why, on God's green earth, did iTunes invert the color scheme on one of the original anti-psychedelic records and create something that resembles a poster for those groups during the Acid Test days? Bad form on Appl Great chillout album (4 stars) the cover basically explains the music, its warm, friendly, and inviting. Even if you don't like Country, if you like Dylan you will love this album! BiographyBorn: May 24, 1941 in Duluth, MNGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-consciousness narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notion that a singer must have a conventionally good voice in order to perform, thereby redefining the vocalist's role in popular music. As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock....
