Mythology – Bee GeesView More By Bee Gees Our ReviewThis “50th Anniversary Collection” celebrates the formation of this seminal group with four sets of tunes, each focusing on songs sung by one of the Brothers Gibb, including Andy Gibb, who was never a Bee Gee, but whose solo career included songs written by his older brothers. The hits are mostly here (and sung by Barry or Robin) along with “deep album” cuts. The songs are sequenced by singer and not chronologically, leading to different stories being told. The disco beat of “Stayin’ Alive” is juxtaposed by the psychedelic march of “Barker of the UFO.” “New York Mining Disaster 1941,” “I Can’t See Nobody,” “Holiday” and “Massachusetts” all flow together as a gorgeous suite. “Islands In the Stream” has a most modern sound. “Man In the Middle” features impressive orchestration. Andy Gibb’s “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water,” “Shadow Dancing” and “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” complete the picture that this is one impeccable musical family. It’s a solid, in-depth collection worthy of this great group.. Customer ReviewsI am a huge fan but... (3 stars)How many times should an artist release so many versions of the same songs under the guise of "greatest hits"? I am a huge fan but this borders on ridiculous! And while he may well have been a brother, and occasionally sang with them, and they wrote his music, Andy was never part of the Bee Gees. I guess that is why they called it Mythology. I am more interested in whether Barry and Robin can deliver some new stuff that will stand Great (5 stars) A fantastic collection. Each disc features each Gibb brother, with the fourth one featuring Andy. A great idea and set. Soundtrack of my life (5 stars) Great songs, a lot of memories. Four cds, one for each Gibb brothers and one cd for Andy Gibb but here writes Bee Gees but in the four cd is music at least from Andy Gibb. In the first cd, leader singer is Barry and almost every song is a hit. The second cd is songs with Robin was the leader. Good songs. The third cd is with Maurice, excellent voice, my favorites are Closer than closer, the Brige and Wildflower. The four cd is music from BiographyFormed: 1958 in Brisbane, Queensland, AustraliaGenre: Rock Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s No popular music act of the '60s, '70s, '80s, or '90s attracted a more varied audience than the Bee Gees. Beginning in the mid- to late '60s as a Beatlesque ensemble, they quickly developed as songwriters and singers to create a style of their own that carried them from psychedelia to progressive pop. Then, after hitting a popular trough, they reinvented themselves as perhaps the most successful white soul act of all time. What remained a constant...
