Monuments and Melodies – IncubusView More By Incubus Our ReviewIncubus inhabits a space between pop and metal, but they have never been a pop metal band. After jumping into the alternative radio landscape with “Stellar” and “Pardon Me,” the band took a cue from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and gradually morphed their sound into a mellow, passionate, groovy take on modern hard rock music, exemplified by “Drive,” “Love Hurts,” and “Dig.” If there is a corollary to Anthony Kiedis’s soaring unblemished vocals, it is Brandon Boyd, and similarly Incubus shift easily from softer songs into the agitated riffs of “Megalomaniac,” “Anna Molly,” and “Midnight Swim” (a new track produced by Brendan O’Brien). Even at 27 tracks, Monuments and Melodies is surprisingly consistent. The first 15 songs cover the band’s chart hits, while the final 11 tracks cover rarities, with “Look Alive,” “Martini,” and an acoustic version of “A Certain Shade of Green,” standing out among the pack. Two new songs (“Black Heart Inertia” and “Midnight Swim”) suggest that Incubus’ best work might still be ahead of them, although the surprisingly credible cover of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” will be icing on the cake for longtime fans.. Customer ReviewsOld Incubus Please come back!!! (3 stars)I was a die hard Incubus fan back in the day, but sadly they changed, or um, sorry... "Evolved" into kind of a whiney, mellow band I couldn't listen to anymore. Every time a new album comes out I get excited and really really hope its closer to the old stuff, but again Im sadly disappointed... Great musicians, Great vocals, Great group... Just not all at the same time.... Incubus please come back to us! Show us your roots! "M Incubus: Good Call (5 stars) Old Incubus fans: This new thing their doing is too different for me. New Incubus fans: These songs are awesome! Incubus: Hey guys, lets release a greatest hits album and an entirely new album for the price of one. That way, everybody is happy! Everybody: What a brilliant idea!! Bottom line: Whether your a new Incubus fan or old, everybody will find something to love on this album. blah (2 stars) I had to give this album only a couple stars because it's a greatest hits album without any tracks from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. or anything prior to that. It's like a big kick in the face to their oldest and most loyal fans. It's like Van Halen putting out a greatest hits album and not including anything from the David Lee Roth era, or Journey only including songs with the filipino dude singing and nothing with Steve Perry. Come on guys, I know you a BiographyFormed: 1991 in Calabasas, CAGenre: Rock Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s Incubus became one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a tireless touring ethic and a broad musical palette. Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, CA, the band's early lineup was comprised of tenth-grade classmates Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; bass), and José Pasillas (drums). Their early funk-metal sound was heavily influenced by the Red...
