One Thing To Understand: (5 stars)
I've been following Grace and the Nocturnals for 10 years now. Not many people understand that all of the folks in the band go off on their side projects. For example: Scott, Benny, and Matt (her husband) have had a side band called "Blues and Lasers" for years now. Everyone flipped when Grace slightly changed her gritty "blues/rock" to a more edged "soul/blues/rock" with the release of GPN's self titled alb

This whole story is really backhanded and sneaky. She used the Nocturnals to record the album and then decided to ditch half of them and call it a solo album. Scott Tournet, who started the band with Grace and her husband 12 years ago, is playing the reverse guitar on this...you can tell as he's used that effect on a few other tracks. "What Grace has become" is selfish, dishonest, and cutthroat. Quite disappointing.

The songs I have heard are very disappointing. So much talent. Playing with the Rolling Stones this summer will hopefully return Potter to her rock and roll roots and return the Nocturnals to her music!

Born in Waitsfield, Vermont, Grace Potter grew up in a family that encouraged her artistic pursuits in areas from music to theater, the latter of which she was studying at St. Lawrence University when drummer Matt Burr heard her singing at an open-mike night in 2002 and asked if she would form a band with him.
