Of course, you get the hits — including some of the precocious child star’s Motown classics, the solo artist’s disco-funk jams, and the gloved-wonder’s monster smashes. But what make this collection especially intriguing are all of the demos, rarities, previously unreleased tracks, and alternate versions. The stripped-down, in-the-pocket demo of the Jacksons’ late-‘70s “Shake a Body” is astounding; the “We Are the World (Demo)” finds MJ singing all of the parts; and this take on “P.Y.T.” has completely different lyrics and instrumentation than the version that appears on Thriller. In addition to a previously unreleased, anti-Iraq war song (“We’ve Had Enough”) and hard-to-find versions of boogie-woogie (“You Can’t Win”) and reflective (“On the Line”), Ultimate Collection also boasts the single versions of dance-floor heaters: “Rock With You,” “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” “Dancing Machine,” “Off the Wall,” and “Beat It.”. I am a massive MJ fan, but I refused for years to buy any of those numerous greatest hits because I didn't see the sense in buying a Greatest hits album when I already had all the songs. I mean there's only so many times you can own "Billie Jean" or "Thriller". This album is an EXCEPTION however. "The Ultimate Collection" does a great job covering his entire career from his motown Bring Captain EO back for .99 cents please (4 stars) I can not believe I can purchase "We are here to change the world". I am so glad itunes got this one right. However, the price is wrong. You bring me up then take me down by charging "Album Only" price. Now I have to choose between buying Captain EO for $34.99 or purchasing gas for my car. It's too bad when all I really should be paying is .99 cents for one song. I've been waiting since 1996 to purchase Captain EO Would be a great buy, but... (1 star) I can't believe you have to buy the entire album to get "Ease On Down the Road"! That's ridiculus.
