Few artists have fused personal growth and artistic growth like Mary J. Blige; her fourth album parallels her transition out of young adulthood and into middle-age maturity. Mary is unhurried and meticulously arranged. The album moves away from the club and radio-oriented songs of Blige’s early career, and presents itself as something to be pondered and absorbed, perhaps while driving or reclined in a well-loved chair. Led by the magnificent, spellbinding opening song, “All That I Can Say” (written and co-sung by Lauryn Hill), Mary aspires to the deeply personal, jazz-influenced albums by elder heroes like Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack. Wonder himself contributes “Time,” a foreboding and beautiful work with underpinnings of reggae. Even the ballads are more pensive than before, delivered by a woman who has learned well from her experiences of the world. As indicated by its simple title and cover photograph, Mary offers a beautiful and deeply rendered portrait of its author, free of gloss or gimmicks.

This is another legend album that always be found in memories of the late 90's this album showed that Mary can only be herself not lookin to prove anything to anyone the way things should be. Mary has been through some things and she told the world she was at the point of she isn't taking any hatred and mess. Do ya thang mary!

The Best (5 stars)
You may not respect the opinion of a 15 year old but this is probably her best album. It brings her voice to the forefront. The album is just......real. This album really should have gotten more attention and praise. From the album cover you could tell it was going to be a powerul album with no inhibition of emotion. A MUST BUY on this album is I'm in Love. It's a great song because it builds ups and the intruments are great. She really sang
